Double backed? Locked off? Knot looks good? On belay? Climbing. Climb on.

heartdontfailmenow asked: Do you have a workout routine like cardio or running, to build up strength for climbing? Or do you just become good at climbing because you climb a lot? And how often do you climb?
I work out a little, but I’m not religious about it. It’s mainly strength stuff because I hatehatehate running and have to trick myself into doing any cardio. I’d also like to be in some kind of shape when climbing starts too so it’s not as hard. Admittedly I’m in better shape in the summer when I’m hiking more and can trick myself into doing activities that’ll get my heart rate up. Although I do ski in the winter(I went today in fact.)
When it comes to climbing, I go once a week in the spring and fall with my school’s climbing club. It gets a little harder in the summer because there isn’t that structure and I don’t have all the gear I need, or confidence. Although I feel comfortable saying this summer is going to be a lot better because I finally feel I have the skills and experience to go out there and climb on my own outside of the club setting. Oh and finally having enough gear helps too.
Thank you very much for the question. FYRC doesn’t get a lot of messages, so I really appreciate them when they come along.
